April 4, 2013 – The fifth annual FREC Graduate Research Symposium was held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Our students raised the bar with 35 abstracts for competition and by engaging students from West Virginia University, University of Kentucky, University of Tennessee, Virginia Commonwealth University and several other academic departments across the Virginia Tech campus. Graduate education and research is one of the core components of FREC’s business and we are very proud of our graduate student work and their contributions. Our thanks also go to Drs. Paul Winistorfer and Dean Stauffer for participating in the program and providing inspiring remarks and to Ms. Carol Werner, Executive Director of Environmental and Energy Study Institute for visiting with us and delivering the keynote address.
Special thanks to all of the judges for their excellent and timely assistance and to Maura Leveroos and Amy Werner (Chairs of the Planning Committee) for their time, efforts, and leadership and other committee members (Bethany Avera, Beth Boehme, Mr. Cody Gillin, Mr. Kevan Minick, and Mr. A.J. Lang) for making this symposium a grand success!
