Shade trees bring welcomed relief on a hot summer day, making outdoor activities more pleasant and helping save money on air conditioning bills. But shade trees provide so much more! They also help purify the air, clean the water, and beautify our homes. However, we have to be good stewards of shade trees so that they do not cause problems for us or our neighbors. In particular, we must make good choices about the trees we plant and how we care for them. Virginia Cooperative Extension offers an assortment of helpful publications about shade trees with topics ranging from planting to pruning. Our faculty can also help answer your questions about shade trees. Contact Eric Wiseman for additional information (firstname.lastname@example.org; 540.231.5148).
